History of Heretaunga Station
Heretaunga railway station first opened its doors in 1908. It has been serving the community for over a century.
From 1941 to 1954, a special railway siding was near the station. This siding was for the Trentham Army Camp. It was used to move freight and carry soldiers on troop trains. The Army even had its own shunting locomotive. Most of these extra tracks were taken away in the 1970s.
