Finding Heritage Falls

This waterfall is easy to find! It's located right behind the Griffin House. You'll find it on Mineral Springs Road, along a path called the Homestead Trail.

How to Get There by Car

If you're driving from Highway 403, take the Lincoln Alexander Parkway exit. Stay to the right to join Rousseaux Street. When you reach the "T" intersection, turn left onto Wilson Street East.

Next, turn right onto Sulphur Springs Road. At the three-way stop sign, turn right again to stay on Sulphur Springs Road. Drive to the very end of the parking lot. From there, just follow the Homestead Trail to reach the waterfall. The address for the Griffin House museum is 733 Mineral Springs Road, Ancaster, Ontario.

History of the Area

The land around Heritage Falls has a very interesting history. In 1830, a man named Enerals Griffin bought this property. Enerals and his wife, Priscilla, had bravely escaped slavery in Virginia, USA. Their family owned this land for many years, until they sold it in 1988 to the Hamilton Conservation Authority.

The Griffin House Museum

The Griffin House itself was built around 1827 by the person who owned the land before the Griffins. Between 1992 and 1994, the house was carefully restored. During this work, over 3,000 old items were found, which tells us a lot about the past!

Today, Griffin House is a museum. Since 2008, it has been recognized as a National Historic Site of Canada. It's a special place that helps us learn about the history of the Griffin family and their journey. The museum is managed by the Hamilton Conservation Authority and Fieldcote Memorial Park and Museum working together.
