Heritage University is a private college. It is located on the Yakama Indian Reservation in Toppenish, Washington, USA. Students can earn different types of college degrees here. These include associate, bachelor's, and master's degrees.
A Look at Heritage University's Past
Heritage University has a long history! It started way back in 1907 in Spokane, Washington. It was first called Holy Names College. It was founded by a group called the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary.
Later, its name changed to Fort Wright College. In 1982, the college moved its main offices to Toppenish, Washington. It was then renamed Heritage College. The college also had a campus in Omak. Five years later, the Spokane campus closed down.
In 2012, a fire sadly destroyed Petrie Hall. This was the university's oldest building.
Working with Other Colleges
Heritage University has special agreements with other colleges. These are called cooperative agreements. They help students get a four-year degree from Heritage University.
This program started in 1993. It allowed students from Big Bend Community College in Moses Lake to use their credits. They could then work towards a bachelor's degree at Heritage.
Similar agreements were made later. In 2003, one started with Columbia Basin College in Pasco. Another began in 2006 with Highline Community College in Des Moines. These agreements make it easier for students to continue their education.
