Herty is a small community in north central Angelina County, Texas, in the United States. It is called an "unincorporated community" because it does not have its own local government like a city or town. Instead, it is part of the larger county. From 1970 to 2000, about 605 people lived there. Herty is located near the city of Lufkin, Texas.
How Herty Started
Herty began in 1940. This was when the Southland Paper Mills were built next to the Angelina and Neches River Railroad. Most people living in Herty worked at this paper mill.
The community is named after a smart chemist named Dr. Charles Herty. He was from Georgia. Dr. Herty found a way to make paper from southern pine trees. He also helped start the Southland Paper company.
In 1960, about 1,400 people lived in Herty. From 1970 to 2000, the population was around 605 people.

Herty is located about three miles east of Lufkin. You can find it where State Highway 103 and Farm to Market Road 842 meet.
