Hibbard is a small place in Indiana that isn't officially a town or city. It's called an "unincorporated community." It is located in Marshall County, within a part of the county called Union Township.
A Look Back: Hibbard's History
Hibbard has an interesting past! It was first named Dante. This was to honor a famous Italian poet named Dante Alighieri. The area was officially planned out and mapped in 1883. This process is called "platting."
A few years later, in 1887, a post office opened here. It was named Hibbard. This post office helped people send and receive mail. It stayed open for many years, until 1958.
Hibbard was also an important stop for trains. It had a station on the New York, Chicago and St. Louis Railroad line.
