Hibberts Gore (also called Hibberts) is a special kind of area in Lincoln County, Maine, in the United States. It's called a "gore" because it's a small piece of land that was left out when other areas were being mapped and organized. In 2020, only one person lived in Hibberts Gore!
A Little Bit of History
When people first mapped out Maine, they sometimes missed small areas. Hibberts Gore was one of these places! It was "ignored by surveyors," which means the people drawing maps didn't include it.
Because it was missed, Hibberts Gore remained an "unincorporated" area. This means it doesn't have its own official local government like a city or a town. Most of Maine is divided into cities, towns, or plantations (another type of small community), but Hibberts Gore is different.
