A Look Back in Time: History of Hickory Corners
The first person to settle near Hickory Corners was Reverend Moses Lawrence. He built his home in 1834. It was located on the shore of Lawrence Lake. This lake is about half a mile east of where the town is today.
How Hickory Corners Got Its Name
In 1837, surveyors were mapping the land. They found a very large hickory tree. This tree was right in the center of a land section. The settlement was named "Hickory Corners" because of this tree.
Early Settlers and Post Office
Solomon C. Hall built the very first house in the town itself. He also became the first postmaster in July 1844. A postmaster is the person in charge of a local post office.

Hickory Corners is located in the southwestern part of Barry County. You can find it where Kellogg School Road and West Hickory Road meet.

The community is about 1.5 miles north of the southern border of Barry County. This border is shared with Kalamazoo County. Hickory Corners is also about 2.5 miles east of the state highway M-43.
