Exploring Hickory Island
Hickory Island is actually one of fifteen islands that make up a larger area called Grosse Ile. While some of these islands are empty, Hickory Island has homes built on it. These homes are usually average-sized and sit on smaller pieces of land.
Connecting to Other Islands
Hickory Island is linked to another island called Meso Island (sometimes known as "Upper Hickory") by a bridge. From Meso Island, you can then reach Grosse Ile. This connection is made possible by the East River Road Bridge.
The East River Road Bridge
In January 2020, a newspaper called the Detroit Free Press reported that this bridge was in "serious condition." Because of its condition, the Michigan Department of Transportation set a very slow speed limit of 5 miles per hour (8.0 km/h) on the bridge in November 2019. This was done to keep everyone safe due to the bridge's wear and tear.
Fun and Recreation on the Island
In the middle of Hickory Island, there's a special place called the Hickory Island Park and Yacht Club. This club offers different fun activities and places for the people who live on the island to enjoy.
The Mystery Monolith of Hickory Island
In January 2021, something very unusual appeared on Hickory Island. A large metal structure, known as a monolith, was found there. It was about 8 ft (2.4 m) tall and 11.5 ft (3.5 m) wide. No one knew who put it there or why.
Global Monolith Sightings
This event was part of a strange trend that happened around the world. Many similar metal monoliths appeared in different places after a lot of news coverage about a monolith found in Utah in November 2020. Hickory Island became one of the many locations to experience this mystery!
