Higgidy is a company that makes fresh food like pies, quiches, and rolls. It's based in Shoreham-by-Sea, a town in West Sussex, England. Camilla Stephens and James Foottit started the company in 2003. The name 'Higgidy' came from a child who once described their pies as looking a bit 'higgidy' or uneven!

How Higgidy Started

Camilla Stephens began baking her own pies at home. She sold them to local events and small shops. In 2004, a café chain called EAT became Higgidy's first big customer.

Growing Bigger

Higgidy became more popular in 2007. This happened when Sainsbury's supermarkets chose them for a special program. It was called "Supply Something New." After this, Higgidy's sales grew a lot.

By 2009 and 2010, Higgidy was named one of the fastest-growing companies in the UK. This was listed in the Sunday Times Fast Track 100. In 2011, Higgidy won a regional award for business thinking.

Higgidy's Home Base

The first Higgidy factory was in Southwick, West Sussex. In 2007, the company moved to a bigger place. This new factory was on Dolphin Road in Shoreham-by-Sea. By 2020, about 300 people worked there.

Cookbooks by the Founder

Camilla Stephens, one of the founders, has written two cookbooks. Her first book, Higgidy: The Cookbook, came out in 2007. It had 100 recipes for pies and other dishes. In 2019, she released Higgidy: The Veggie Cookbook. This book featured 120 vegetarian recipes.

Helping Others

Higgidy helps a charity called FareShare. FareShare gives food to people who need it. Higgidy donates extra food every week. This food goes to community kitchens and food banks. It helps people who are hungry in the UK.

New Partnerships

In 2019, another food company called Samworth Brothers bought a small part of Higgidy. Samworth Brothers also owns other pie companies, like Ginsters. There were no plans to mix the factories. But this partnership was expected to help Higgidy grow even more.
