Students in the North Winneshiek district could choose to attend high school at either Decorah High School or Mabel-Canton Public Schools in Mabel, Minnesota.
Joining the Decorah District
On July 1, 2018, the North Winneshiek district officially joined with the Decorah district. This process is called consolidation. When this happened, the North Winneshiek School closed its doors for good.
Option to Attend Mabel-Canton
After the two districts merged, a special agreement was made. This agreement allows students who live in the old North Winneshiek district area to still attend Mabel-Canton schools if they prefer. This option is available for five years and applies to students who live closer to Mabel than to Decorah.
