Hillsdale is a small place in Indiana, USA, that isn't officially a town or city. It's called an unincorporated community. You can find it in Helt Township, which is part of Vermillion County.
History of Hillsdale
Hillsdale got its start a long time ago. A post office opened here in 1872, which means people were already living and sending mail from this spot. The community itself was officially planned out in 1873.
Hillsdale was named because it's built on a hill! The first businesses were located at the bottom of the hill, close to the railroad. But most of the homes were built higher up. To make it easier for people to walk between the businesses and their homes, the famous Hillsdale Steps were built in 1903. These steps helped connect the two parts of the community.
