Hillview, Waterford facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Hillview (Irish: Radharc an Chnoic) is a large housing estate located in Waterford, Ireland. It is home to about 2000 people, making it one of the biggest neighborhoods in the city. The main entrance to Hillview is near the Kyle Curran pitch, which is named after a young resident from the area. You can also find the Roanmore and De La Salle GAA pitches nearby.

Hillview's Early Days

In the past, the lower part of Hillview was surrounded by open fields and natural areas. These included places like Witches Lane, The Nettle Camp, The Corn Field, and the Wasteland. Kids and teenagers in the late 1980s and 1990s loved to play and explore in these open spaces.

However, in the early 2000s, new houses were built in the Grace Dieu area, and these natural spots disappeared. A tall wall, about 9 feet high, was built to separate Hillview from these new estates. This wall also made it harder for people in Hillview to reach the River Suir and the Grace Dieu area. Because of these changes, some of the first families who lived in Hillview decided to move away.

Streets and Green Spaces

Hillview is made up of several different street sections, each with its own name. Some of these include Oak Drive, Oak Avenue, Oak Grove, Oak Close, Pinewood Drive, Pinewood Avenue, Chestnut Green, Crescent Drive, and Hawthorn Drive.

A great feature of Hillview is that each street section has its own green area. These green spaces are perfect for people to walk their dogs or for children to play safely outdoors.
