Hiromitsu Horiike (堀池 洋充, Horiike Hiromitsu, born May 24, 1971) is a former Japanese football player. He played as a goalkeeper.
Playing Career of Hiromitsu Horiike
Hiromitsu Horiike was born in Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan, on May 24, 1971. After finishing his studies at Keio University, he began his professional football journey in 1994. He joined a club called Tokyo Gas, which later became known as FC Tokyo. At that time, the club was part of the Japan Football League.
From his very first season, Horiike became the team's main goalkeeper. The club started to get better results each year. In 1998, his team won the championship in the Japan Football League. This big win meant the club was promoted to a new league called the J2 League in 1999.
In the 1999 season, Horiike continued to be the regular goalkeeper. He played in 16 matches in a row right from the start of the season. However, during his 16th match against Consadole Sapporo, he got a shoulder injury. This injury unfortunately kept him from playing for the rest of the season. Another goalkeeper, Takayuki Suzuki, took his place.
Even with Horiike's injury, FC Tokyo finished in second place in 1999. This great performance led to another promotion, this time to the top league, the J1 League, for the 2000 season.
In the J1 League, FC Tokyo brought in a new goalkeeper named Yoichi Doi. Because of this, Horiike found it very hard to get playing time. He only played in one match in the J1 League. This happened on July 8, when he came on as a substitute goalkeeper for the last few minutes of a game against Kawasaki Frontale. This was his only appearance in the J1 League. At the end of the 2000 season, Hiromitsu Horiike decided to retire from professional football. He played a total of 138 league matches during his career.
