Playing Career
Starting His Journey
Hiromitsu Horiike was born in Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan, on May 24, 1971. After finishing his studies at Keio University, he joined a football club called Tokyo Gas in 1994. This club later became known as FC Tokyo.
Becoming a Regular Player
From his very first season, Horiike became the team's main goalkeeper. He played in most of their games. The team got better and better each year. In 1998, they even won the championship in the Japan Football League.
Moving Up to New Leagues
Because they won, FC Tokyo was promoted to a new league called J2 League in 1999. Horiike continued to be the main goalkeeper. He played in 16 games in a row at the start of the season.
Facing Challenges
During his 16th game against Consadole Sapporo, Horiike got a shoulder injury. This injury meant he couldn't play for a while. Another goalkeeper, Takayuki Suzuki, took his place. Even without Horiike playing, FC Tokyo finished second in the J2 League in 1999. This meant they were promoted again, this time to the top league, J1 League, in 2000.
Final Season
In the J1 League, FC Tokyo brought in a new goalkeeper named Yoichi Doi. This made it hard for Horiike to get playing time. He only played in one match in the J1 League. This happened on July 8, when he came on as a substitute goalkeeper for the last few minutes of a game against Kawasaki Frontale. After the 2000 season, Hiromitsu Horiike decided to retire from playing professional football. He played a total of 138 games during his career.
