Rabbi Hirschel Ben Arye Löb Levin (born 1721 – died 26 August 1800) was a very important Jewish leader. He was known by other names like Hart Lyon and Hirshel Löbel. He served as the Chief Rabbi for Great Britain and also for Berlin. He was also a rabbi in cities like Halberstadt and Mannheim. People knew him as a very smart scholar of the Talmud, which is a collection of Jewish laws and traditions.

Early Life and Family
Rabbi Hirschel Ben Arye Löb Levin was born in a town called Rzeszów. This town was part of the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth, a large country that existed a long time ago. His father was named Aryeh Löb, and his mother was Miriam Lowenstam. His father was also a rabbi in Amsterdam. His mother was the daughter of another famous rabbi, Chacham Zvi Ashkenazi. Rabbi Hirschel was also a descendant of a very old and respected Jewish leader, Elijah Ba'al Shem of Chelm.
His Teachings and Legacy
Rabbi Hirschel wrote many notes and comments on the Talmud. These notes can be found in a special version of the Talmud called the Vilna edition. They are listed under the name of Rabbi Tsvi Hersh Berlin.
Rabbi Hirschel had a son named Rabbi Solomon Hirschell. His son also became a very important leader, serving as the Chief Rabbi for the Jewish communities in Britain, Germany, and Poland. He was the first Chief Rabbi for the entire British Empire. Rabbi Hirschel had another son, Saul Berlin, who was also a scholar of the Talmud.
