Hisae Yanase (born December 8, 1943 – died May 21, 2019) was a talented artist. She was a ceramist (someone who makes art from clay), a painter, and a sculptor. Hisae was from Japan but lived most of her life in Córdoba, Spain. There, she learned about ceramics and became a well-known artist and teacher. She was known for mixing Japanese, Spanish, and ancient styles from Córdoba in her unique ceramic art.

Early Life and Education
Hisae Yanase was born in a quiet part of Chiba, Japan. This was on December 8, 1943. She grew up in the big city of Tokyo.
She went to Bunka College in Tokyo. In 1960, she finished her studies with a degree in design. A few years later, in 1964, she learned special skills in working with leather.
Moving to Spain and Ceramic Art
In 1968, when she was 23, Hisae moved to Córdoba, Spain. She had a friend moving there and was interested in a special type of leather from Córdoba. However, her artistic focus soon changed to ceramic art.
She studied ceramics in other Spanish cities like Valencia and Manises. In 1976, she started teaching ceramic art. She taught at the Mateo Inurria School of Arts and Crafts in Córdoba. Hisae taught there for 35 years before she retired in 2011.
Unique Artistic Style
In the 1980s, Hisae became very interested in the pottery of an ancient Islamic kingdom in Córdoba. This kingdom was called the Caliphate of Córdoba. She worked closely with the nearby historical site, Medina Azahara.
She studied the pottery styles from this ancient time. Hisae then used parts of these old styles in her own modern art. In 2015, one of her artworks, Kuchu No Ako, was placed at the Medina Azahara museum.
Exhibitions and Recognition
Hisae Yanase showed her art in many solo exhibitions. These were held in different cities across Spain. She also had shows in other countries, like Korea and Japan.
Her art was also part of group exhibitions. These included shows in Taiwan, Belgium, and Morocco. You can find her artworks in collections in Japan, Switzerland, and Italy.
Hisae also used her artistic skills for her community. She designed a monument in the town of Bujalance. She also created the poster for the 2016 May Festival in Córdoba. In 2015, she received an award for her help in preserving the history of Córdoba's central area.
Later Life
Hisae Yanase lived in Córdoba with her husband, Antonio I. González. He was also an artist. Hisae passed away on May 21, 2019, after a sudden illness.
