Hochfilzen is a small town in the Kitzbühel district of Tyrol, Austria. It is located in the Pillersee valley, about 5 kilometers (3 miles) east of Fieberbrunn. In 2016, about 1,147 people lived there.

Hochfilzen is very famous as a winter sports place. It is especially well-known for cross-country skiing and biathlon.

Hochfilzen: A Biathlon Hotspot

Hochfilzen is a top spot for biathlon events. Biathlon is a winter sport that combines cross-country skiing and rifle shooting. Athletes ski a certain distance and then stop to shoot at targets. It needs both strength and accuracy.

The town has hosted the important Biathlon World Championships several times. These championships happened in 1978, 1998, 2005, and most recently in 2017. Hochfilzen is also a regular stop for the annual IBU Biathlon World Cup series. This means many of the world's best biathlon athletes come here to compete every year.

Army Training Center

In 1875, Hochfilzen got its own railway connection. Soon after, a special area was set up for military training. Today, this area is used by the Austrian Army.

It serves as an army sports center, especially for biathlon training. Soldiers also learn important survival training skills here. This training helps them to be prepared for different situations.
