The Hoff Building is a famous building in Boise, Idaho, USA. It was designed by architects Tourtellotte & Hummel and built in 1930. The building shows off the cool Art Deco style.

When it first opened, it was known as the Hotel Boise. It's an important part of the Boise Capitol Area District. This area is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, which means it's a special historic site. The Hoff Building was added to this list on May 12, 1976.

With 11 floors in 1930, it was considered Boise's very first skyscraper. Today, it's still one of the tallest buildings in the city.

History of the Hoff Building

The Hotel Boise was built in 1930 for a developer named Walter E. Pierce. It stands where a Methodist Church used to be. The building was quite large, with 400 hotel rooms and 10 apartments.

Many different businesses were located inside the hotel. These included a gift shop called Leah's Corner Cupboard and Veda Renfro's Artistic Beauty Salon. There was also Lee McClelland's Barber Shop and the North American Automobile Association. You could even find the Hotel Boise Cab Co. there!

The first manager of the hotel was Earl McInnis. The Hotel Boise was also connected to the Western Hotels Company.

Changes Over Time

The Hotel Boise welcomed guests from 1930 until 1976. Then, a company called Hoff Companies, Inc. bought it. The new owners changed the building's name to the Hoff Building. They also made big changes inside, turning the hotel rooms into office spaces.

During this renovation, two more floors were added to the building. Some of the original Art Deco design features were also removed. However, just two years later, the building was sold again to EBCO Inc. The new owners decided to put the beautiful Art Deco details back.
