Hog deer facts for kids
The hog deer or 'Indian hog deer' (Hyelaphus porcinus) is a small deer. It lives across many parts of Asia. You can find it in countries like Pakistan, northern India, Nepal, and Bangladesh. It also lives in southwestern Yunnan Province in China, and all the way to western Thailand.
This deer gets its name from how it runs. It moves through forests with its head held low. This helps it duck under obstacles instead of jumping over them. Most other deer leap over things. When it runs, its tail stands up straight. This shows the white fur underneath its tail.
