How Hogarty Got Its Name
The community of Hogarty has an interesting history. It was named after a person named John Crump Hogarty. He was an important figure in the area's early days.
John Crump Hogarty set up a trading post here in 1850. A trading post was a place where people could buy and sell goods. Later, in 1881, he became the first postmaster. A postmaster is the person in charge of a post office. This is how the community got its name, honoring its first postmaster and trader.
