Hogood Coffee (Chinese: 后谷咖啡; pinyin: Hòugǔ Kāfēi) is a big Chinese company that makes coffee products. They are the largest company in China that produces instant coffee. Instant coffee is coffee that you can make very quickly by just adding hot water.
The Story of Hogood Coffee
Hogood Coffee started in 2007. Before they made their own coffee, they sold coffee beans to another famous company, Nestle. Later, Hogood Coffee decided to create their own brand of instant coffee. They even made a special instant coffee with walnut protein powder. This was different from other brands that used non-dairy creamer.
Growing and Making Coffee
Hogood Coffee grows much of its coffee in Yunnan, China. This area is one of the main places where coffee is grown in China. The company works with many small farmers. These farmers own small pieces of land. Hogood Coffee helps them by planting coffee seedlings. Then, the farmers grow the coffee beans. Hogood Coffee buys the beans from them when they are ready.
This way of working helps increase how much coffee is grown. It helps many small farms work together. The company is also building a large new factory. This factory will make different types of coffee. It will produce freeze-dried coffee and roasted coffee beans. This big project is planned to be finished in 2018.
Selling Coffee Around the World
Hogood Coffee sells its own brand of instant coffee. They also sell roasted whole coffee beans. In China, another company, Nestle, sells most of the instant coffee. Hogood Coffee is growing its share in the market.
Hogood Coffee sends about half of all the coffee exported from China. Since 2015, they have been sending coffee to Europe. They use a special train route called the Chongqing-Xinjiang-Europe railway. This train goes through Kazakhstan and reaches Duisburg, Germany. This train journey takes only 14 days. Before, sending coffee by sea from Guangzhou took much longer, about 30 to 35 days.
