History of Holgate
Holgate was first planned out in 1873. Back then, it was known as Kaufmanville. The village grew when a railroad line was built through the area. It officially became a village in 1881. The name "Holgate" comes from William Holgate, who owned the land where the town was built. A post office has been serving the community since 1874.
