A Look Back in Time
The area that is now Holland Charter Township has a long history. A village called Cedar Swamp was planned and recorded in 1848. This was done by Albertus van Raalte, who also started the City of Holland. By 1853, about 1,418 people lived in the township.
When it was first created, Holland Township included what are now Park Township and Zeeland Township. Zeeland Township became its own separate area in 1851.
