History of Hollansburg
Hollansburg started on March 28, 1838. A man named James Stewart planned out a community in Harrison Township and called it "Union."
Later, another landowner, William Hollaman, had a disagreement with Stewart. To get back at him, Hollaman planned his own community just one mile away. A third landowner, Valentine Harland, quickly added more land to this new place.
They named the new community "Hollansburg." This name was a mix of "Hollaman" and "Harland." Soon, a post office moved to Hollansburg, and the village grew quickly. Eventually, Union and Hollansburg joined together.
The first church in Hollansburg was built in 1840. The first school building opened its doors in 1848.
