Holly Township is home to a few different communities. The main one is the village of Holly.

Besides the main village, there are also two smaller, unincorporated communities. This means they are part of the township but don't have their own separate local government.

Holly Township was one of the last areas in Oakland County to be officially set up. It was organized on March 6, 1838.

One of the oldest places in Holly is Oak Hill Cemetery. It was started around the same time the township was formed. Many veterans from different wars, even as far back as the Revolutionary War, are buried there. You can also find the graves of many families who first settled in the Holly area.

Around the year 1900, Holly Township really grew and became important. This was because of the booming rail industry. Holly became a central point for trains traveling between cities like Flint, Pontiac, and Saginaw. Trains also went east and west from Lansing to Port Huron. Even today, trains play a big role in Holly's economy and daily life.
