Holmes Osborne, born on November 7, 1947, is an American actor. He is known for playing interesting characters in movies and TV shows. Some of his famous roles include films like That Thing You Do!, Donnie Darko, and Southland Tales.

Holmes Osborne's Acting Journey
Early Career and First Steps
Before becoming an actor, Holmes Osborne had different jobs. He worked as a car salesman and also taught English. While studying at the University of Kansas in 1966, he started making videos. These were often training videos or short clips to inspire people at business events. By 1996, he had made more than 500 of these videos.
He also performed in live theater plays. However, he stopped around 1983 because the pay was not enough to support his family. One of his last theater roles was in a musical called Blanco! in the summer of 1983.
Breaking into Movies and TV
In 1996, Osborne got a role in the musical comedy-drama movie That Thing You Do!. In this film, directed by Tom Hanks, he played the main character's father. He also had a repeating role in the HBO miniseries From the Earth to the Moon, which aired in 1998.
The next year, he played Gordon LaRiviere in the movie Affliction. This movie was filmed in early 1997. Osborne got the part after sending in an audition tape. He did not even meet the director until he arrived on the movie set.
Notable Roles in the Late 1990s
In 1999, Osborne appeared in the film Election. He played the father of two main characters who were siblings. Later that year, he was a guest star on The X-Files. He played a necromancer, a character who deals with spirits, for the Millennium Group. He appeared alongside Lance Henriksen, who played his character Frank Black again.
Playing Fathers in Popular Films
In 2000, Osborne played Kirsten Dunst's father in the teen comedy Bring It On. He then starred as Eddie Darko, the main character's father, in the science fiction drama movie Donnie Darko. He praised director Richard Kelly for being very creative and spontaneous on set.

In 2003, Osborne appeared in two different movies. He was in the family comedy Cheaper By the Dozen. He also appeared in the mystery thriller Identity.
In 2004, Osborne was a co-star in the comedy movie Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy. Two years later, in 2006, he played the main villain in the Disney movie Air Buddies.
In 2007, Osborne worked again with Donnie Darko director Richard Kelly. This time, it was for the political satire film Southland Tales. They worked together again in 2009 on the psychological thriller The Box. Also in 2009, he co-starred in the comedy movie All About Steve.

In 2011, Osborne had a supporting role in the Tom Hanks movie Larry Crowne. He has also appeared in many television series. These include House M. D., Cold Case, CSI: Miami, Rules of Engagement, and Dharma & Greg. He also had a repeating role on the ABC science fiction series Invasion.

Holmes Osborne is married to Candace. In 1996, it was reported that he lived in the same house where he grew up as a child. He really enjoys fishing as a hobby.
