Homer Russell Salisbury (born May 27, 1870 – died December 30, 1915) was an important leader and teacher for the Seventh-day Adventist church. He is remembered for starting the very first Adventist school in England. Sadly, he died at sea during World War I when his ship, the SS Persia, was sunk by a German submarine. He was 45 years old.

Life and Work

Homer Russell Salisbury was born in Battle Creek, Michigan, on May 27, 1870. His father was Burleigh Russell Salisbury. Homer also had a brother. His brother later moved to Australia. Homer married a woman named Lenna Elizabeth Whitney.

Starting a School in England

In 1901, Homer Salisbury did something amazing. He started the first Seventh-day Adventist school in England. It was called Duncombe Hall College. He was the principal, or head, of this school for five years. This means he was in charge of everything there.

Becoming a Minister and Leader

After his time at the school, Homer Salisbury became a minister in 1904. This meant he could lead church services and teach people about his faith. In 1905, he became the president of the South England Conference. This was a big leadership role within the church. He also taught at Claremont Union College in South Africa.

Leading in India

In 1913, Homer Salisbury took on another important role. He became the president of the Indian Union Mission. This meant he was leading the church's work across a large area in India.

His Final Journey

In December 1915, Homer Salisbury boarded the SS Persia ship. He was traveling from Marseille to India. On December 30, 1915, the ship was sunk by a German submarine. This happened during World War I. Homer Salisbury died at sea at the age of 45.
