Homeroom was an American TV show, also known as a sitcom. It was shown on the ABC channel from September 16, 1989, to December 17, 1989. The show starred stand-up comedian Darryl Sivad. He played a fourth-grade teacher at a school in a big city. ABC decided to create the show for Sivad after seeing him perform on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson.
What is Homeroom About?
The story of Homeroom follows Darryl Harper, played by Darryl Sivad. Darryl used to have a very good job writing ads. But he decided to quit his high-paying job to teach kids who needed help at P.S. 391. This was a school in a busy part of New York City.
Darryl's wife, Virginia, played by Penny Johnson, supported his choice. However, Virginia's father, Phil Drexler, played by Bill Cobbs, did not agree with Darryl's decision. Phil often told Darryl that he disapproved. He felt it was his right because Darryl and Virginia lived for free in a brownstone (a type of city house) that Phil owned and also lived in.
