Honaker has a rich history that dates back many years. The area was first settled around 1772. A person named William Ferrill was one of the very first to build a home here.
During a conflict called Dunmore's War in 1774, a special fort was built. This fort was known as New Garden Fort. Its purpose was to protect the settlers living in the area from attacks.
