Honolua Bay, Mokuleʻia Bay, and Lipoa Point are special places found on the west side of Maui, Hawaiʻi. They are part of a larger area called the Honolua ahupuaʻa. An ahupuaʻa is a traditional Hawaiian land division that stretches from the mountains all the way to the sea.

This area is a mix of farms and protected natural lands. It is looked after by the Maui Land & Pineapple Company. Honolua Bay and Mokuleʻia Bay together form the Honolua-Mokuleʻia Marine Life Conservation District. This means the ocean and its creatures here are protected, like a special underwater park.

What is a Marine Life Conservation District?

A Marine Life Conservation District (MLCD) is a special ocean area where marine life is protected. In these areas, activities like fishing or taking coral are often restricted or not allowed at all. This helps fish, corals, and other sea creatures thrive. The Honolua-Mokuleʻia Marine Life Conservation District covers about 45 acres of ocean. This protection helps keep the reefs healthy and full of life for everyone to enjoy.

Getting to the Bays

The coastline around Honolua and Mokuleʻia is rugged, meaning it's rocky and wild. You can reach these beautiful bays by following a trail from a parking lot. This parking lot is located right off the Honoapiilani Highway.
