What is the Campaign's Goal?
The main goal of this movement is to end all forms of harm against women in India. It also aims to make sure women have equal rights in their finances, social lives, and politics. The campaign wants all women in the country to receive fair treatment.
How Does the Campaign Work?
The campaign uses many ways to fight against unfair treatment of women in India.
- It sets up special stalls and holds festivals about women's rights.
- It organizes meetings and shares books and other materials about women's rights.
- The campaign uses videos and street plays to teach people.
- These activities help people learn about laws and rules that protect women.
The campaign also works to influence the government. It gathers public support and runs long campaigns. This helps push for changes in laws and systems to stop harm against women.
What Does the Campaign Ask For?
For four years, the movement held many meetings and workshops across India. They talked with many different groups of people. From these discussions, they created a plan called 'Ending Violence against Women: A National Roadmap'.
A special group looked at this plan carefully. They decided the movement should focus on four main requests. These requests could be put into action quickly by state governments. Once these four points are achieved, the movement can then ask for bigger changes. These bigger changes would involve improvements in how the government, courts, and police work.
The Four Main Requests
The campaign has four key demands to help protect women:
- Stop the sale of alcohol completely.
- Teach women self-defense as part of school lessons.
- Create a special protection team for women's safety in every area.
- Set up fast-track courts and special investigation teams in every area. These teams would quickly handle cases of harm against women.
About Nirbhaya Vahini
To make sure state governments follow these four requests, a special group was formed in 2014. This group is called Nirbhaya Vahini. It is made up of over 10,000 volunteers. These volunteers work to push for the campaign's goals.
