William Howard Vincent "Hopper" Levett (born January 25, 1908 – died November 30, 1995) was an English cricketer. He was known for being a wicket-keeper, a special player who stands behind the stumps to catch the ball. Hopper Levett played for the Kent County Cricket Club from 1930 to 1947. He also played in one important international match called a Test match in 1934.

Who Was Hopper Levett?

Hopper Levett was born in a place called Goudhurst in Kent, England. He went to school at Brighton College. His family had lived in Kent for a long time. They owned farms where they grew hops, which are used to make beer. Because of this, he was also a farmer.

Cricket Career

Hopper Levett was a talented wicket-keeper. This means he was the player who stood behind the stumps. His job was to catch the ball after the batsman hit it, or if the batsman missed it. He also tried to get batsmen out by stumping them.

He played for the Kent County Cricket Club for many years. He started playing for them in 1930 and continued until 1947. During this time, he played in 175 first-class matches. In these matches, he caught 283 balls and stumped 195 batsmen.

His Only Test Match

In 1934, Hopper Levett got the chance to play in a Test match. This is a very high level of international cricket. He played against India on January 5, 1934. This was his only Test match for England.

In that match, he scored 7 runs in total. He also showed his skills as a wicket-keeper. He caught 3 players out during the game. Even though he only played one Test match, it was a big achievement in his cricket career.

Life After Cricket

After his cricket career, Hopper Levett continued his life as a farmer. He was known as a "gentleman farmer," which means he managed his own farms. He passed away in Hastings, East Sussex, in 1995, at the age of 87.
