The Hornbine Baptist Church is a very old church located at 141 Hornbine Road in Rehoboth, Massachusetts. This simple wooden building was constructed in 1753. It is the oldest Baptist church in southeastern Massachusetts.
The church is a single-story building made of wood. It has a front-facing roof and flat wooden siding. You can find it at the corner of Hornbine and Baker Streets. It's right across from the Hornbine School. A covered entryway with a sloped roof is at the front of the church. It has two doors and one window. A "social hall" was added to the northern side of the building.

A Look Back: The Church's History
When the Hornbine Baptist Church was built in 1753, it had one big open room inside. The pulpit, which is where the preacher stands, was on the north wall.
Changes Over the Years
In 1802, some big changes happened. Balconies, called galleries, were added to both ends of the church. Rows of seats, known as pews, were also put in. The pulpit was made bigger at this time, with stairs on each side.
Later on, the inside of the church was changed again. The pulpit was made smaller and moved to the southeast corner. In 1869, the current main entrance was added. The social hall, a place for gatherings, was also built then. It was made even bigger a few years later.
Modern Touches
During the 1870s, a fancy chandelier and four lamps were added. These lamps were later updated to use electricity in the 1900s. Also in the 1870s, sheds for horses were built outside. These sheds were taken down in the 1920s.
The church was officially recognized as an important historical place in 1983. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places. By 1995, fewer people were attending services at the Baptist church. They held services twice a month.
Holy Cross Catholic Church Today
Sometime between 2009 and 2015, the building at 141 Hornbine Road became the home of the Holy Cross Catholic Church. This church is part of a group of independent Catholic churches. These churches are different from the main Roman Catholic Church.
