Greenwood: A Historic Spot
- Greenwood is a small, undeveloped area in the southeast part of Horton Township. It's located at coordinates 44°10′34″N 84°09′24″W.
Long ago, from 1870 to 1895, Greenwood was a busy place. Around 2,000 men worked there seasonally in nearly 50 lumber camps. They cut down trees for wood.
A post office opened in Greenwood in January 1873. By 1878, it was a stop on the Mackinaw division of the Michigan Central Railroad. This train line helped move the lumber and people. The post office eventually closed in February 1901.
