Finding Lost Dr. Seuss Stories
The four stories in this book were first printed a long time ago. They appeared in a magazine called Redbook during the 1950s. Dr. Seuss wrote them as part of a monthly column.
Dr. Seuss died in 1991. For many years, these stories were not widely known. Later, a person who studied Dr. Seuss's work, Charles D. Cohen, found them again. Thanks to him, these "lost" stories could be published in a book for everyone to enjoy.
Stories in the Collection
This book contains four fun and imaginative stories. Each one shows Dr. Seuss's unique style.
Horton and the Kwuggerbug
This story features Horton the Elephant, a kind and helpful character. A small bug called a Kwuggerbug lands on Horton's trunk. The Kwuggerbug asks Horton to take him to his beezlenut tree. Horton agrees because the bug promises him half of the nuts.
The journey to the tree is very difficult. Horton faces many challenges. He has to swim across a big river full of crocodiles. He also climbs a tall, rocky mountain. The Kwuggerbug takes advantage of Horton's good nature. In the end, the Kwuggerbug tries to trick Horton. But a perfectly timed sneeze helps Horton get what he deserves.
Marco Comes Late
This story brings back Marco, a character from And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street. Marco is late for school. He tries to explain why to his teacher. His explanation is a very wild and imaginative tale.
Marco says a bird landed on his books and laid an egg. Then, various animals started arguing. They debated if Marco should protect the egg or go to school on time. In the end, his teacher understands the real reason behind his amazing story.
How Officer Pat Saved the Whole Town
Officer Pat sees a tiny gnat about to bother a cat. He realizes this small event could lead to huge problems. He imagines a long chain of disasters. These disasters could even destroy the whole town!
Officer Pat quickly steps in to stop the gnat. Because of his quick thinking, the town is saved. This story shows how one small action can prevent big trouble.
The Hoobub and the Grinch
This is a very short story. It features a character named the Grinch. However, this Grinch is not the same grumpy character from How the Grinch Stole Christmas!. In this story, he is a trickster.
The Grinch tries to convince a creature called a Hoobub that a piece of green string is better than the sun. It's a silly story about believing what you are told.
