Hossam Mohamed Ashour Sanad Atia, born on March 9, 1986, is a famous Egyptian former football player. He was a defensive midfielder, which means he helped protect his team's goal.
Ashour spent most of his career playing for Al Ahly, one of Egypt's biggest football clubs. He became one of the most successful players to stay with just one club. He played over 500 games for Al Ahly in different competitions. He also played for the Egyptian national team.

Hossam Ashour's Football Journey
Starting His Club Career
Hossam Ashour was born in Cairo, Egypt. He started playing football in the youth system at Al Ahly. When he was just seventeen, his talent caught the eye of the team's manager, Manuel José de Jesus. Ashour was then promoted to the first team.
He made his first appearance in the Egyptian Premier League during the 2003–04 season. This was in a match against El Mansoura. Later, in the 2009–10 season, he became the youngest player to captain Al Ahly in a game. This happened in a match against Ittihad El Shorta.
Reaching Milestones
In 2014, Ashour played his 100th game in the CAF Champions League. This is a very important African club competition. He reached this milestone during a match against the Tanzanian team Young Africans. He was only the fourth Al Ahly player to achieve this. The other players were Essam El-Hadary, Wael Gomaa, and Shady Mohamed.
In May 2017, Ashour faced a penalty for an incident during a match. He was banned for four games and fined. His manager, Hossam El-Badry, also faced charges for an incident in the same game.
Becoming Club Captain
Ashour became the official captain of Al Ahly in his thirteenth year with the club. He won his first trophy as captain in January 2018. This was a 1–0 victory over Al-Masry in the 2017 Egyptian Super Cup. This trophy was his 33rd major win with the club. This made him the player with the most trophies in Al Ahly's history.
He had planned to stop playing football at the end of the 2020 season. However, after some disagreements with Al Ahly, he decided to keep playing. In October 2020, he joined Al Ittihad instead of retiring.
Playing for His Country
Youth National Team
Hossam Ashour played for Egypt's national team at the under-20 level. He took part in the 2005 African Youth Championship in Benin. His team finished as runners-up, losing to Nigeria. He also played for the team in the 2005 FIFA World Youth Championship. In that tournament, Egypt was eliminated in the group stage. Later, he also played for Egypt's Olympic football squad.
Senior National Team
Ashour made his first appearance for the Egypt senior side on August 20, 2008. This was in a game against Sudan, which Egypt lost 4–0. He played a total of 14 games for the senior national team.
