Hot Lead and Cold Feet is a fun comedy-western film made by Walt Disney Productions in 1978. It stars Jim Dale, Karen Valentine, Don Knotts, Jack Elam, and Darren McGavin. The movie was first called Welcome to Bloodshy.
It came out on July 5, 1978. It was shown alongside The Madcap Adventures of Mr. Toad. That film was a new version of the animated short The Wind in the Willows from 1949.
What's the Story About?
The story is about a town called Bloodshy. It was founded by a tough man named Jasper Bloodshy, played by Jim Dale. Everyone in town is scared of Jasper's son, Wild Billy, who is also played by Jim Dale. Wild Billy is a famous gunslinger.
Jasper finds out he has another son named Eli. Eli also looks just like him and Wild Billy! Eli lives far away in Philadelphia. Years ago, Jasper's wife from England left him because his ways were too wild. She went back to England, taking one of their twin sons with her. That twin was Eli.
With help from his butler, Mansfield, Jasper writes a new will. This will includes Eli. Then, Jasper pretends to fall off a cliff. He does this in front of the town's dishonest mayor, Ragsdale, and the sheriff, Denver Kid. Jasper had just told them about his second son.
Eli is very different from Wild Billy. He works as a Salvation Army missionary in Philadelphia. He helps orphans like Roxanne and Marcus. Eli gets a telegram saying his father died. He didn't even know his father existed! Eli decides to go to Bloodshy to get his inheritance. He brings Marcus and Roxanne with him.
On their way, Eli's stagecoach is stopped by the Snead brothers. These outlaws were sent by Mayor Ragsdale to scare Eli away. The Snead brothers don't know that Eli is a twin. So, they think Eli is Wild Billy! This causes a lot of confusion throughout the movie. The Sneads make the stagecoach crash, leaving Eli, Marcus, and Roxanne stranded.
As they walk to Bloodshy, they meet a woman named Jenny. She is also going to Bloodshy to start a school. They all travel to town together.
Jasper's butler, Mansfield, brings the will to Sheriff Denver. The will says that the inheritance will be decided by a contest. This contest is a long obstacle course called the Bloody Bloodshy Trail. It involves driving trains, swinging across a gorge, climbing a mountain, and driving a wagon.
During the contest, both Eli and Wild Billy realize something important. Mayor Ragsdale has set them up! He wants them to fight and kill each other. That way, he can take all of Jasper's money for himself. The brothers decide to work together. They expose Ragsdale's evil plan. Soon after, Ragsdale is put in jail, and Denver Kid becomes the new mayor.
