Howard Antony (born 19 April 1963) is a British actor. He is well known for playing Alan Jackson in the BBC soap opera EastEnders. He was on the show from 1993 to 1997 and came back for a short time in 2010. After leaving EastEnders, he became a drama teacher at Tomhood school in London.
Early Career and Training
Howard Antony started his acting journey in 1987. His very first role was a small part in the movie Full Metal Jacket. This film was directed by Stanley Kubrick and was being filmed in east London.
Antony trained to be an actor at the Poor School in London's King's Cross. After finishing his training, he spent several years working in theatre. This experience helped him prepare for bigger roles.
Becoming Alan Jackson
After his theatre work, Howard Antony got the role of Alan Jackson in the popular BBC soap opera EastEnders. He played this character for four years. During his time on the show, Alan Jackson's character faced many challenges. These included being unemployed and dealing with difficult family situations. His character's relationship with Carol Jackson (Lindsay Coulson) had its ups and downs.
The Jackson family eventually left the show. This happened because Lindsay Coulson, who played Carol, wanted to leave. Howard Antony was asked to return to EastEnders a year after he left, but he decided not to at that time.
Other Acting Roles
After leaving EastEnders, Antony continued his acting career. In 2003, he starred in a film called Seizing Me. He also appeared in the BBC medical drama Doctors twice, once in 2003 and again in 2004.
In 2004, he played the character Parker in the movie The Defender. In this film, he acted alongside Dolph Lundgren.
Howard Antony returned to EastEnders to play Alan Jackson again in 2010. He appeared in three episodes between October 12 and October 25 of that year.
