Howard Jonathan Eisley (born December 4, 1972) is an American former professional basketball player. He is also a basketball coach. Howard was born in Detroit, Michigan. He played college basketball at Boston College. In 1994, the Minnesota Timberwolves chose him in the NBA draft.
Eisley played for twelve seasons in the National Basketball Association (NBA). He spent six of those seasons with the Utah Jazz. He also played for seven other teams during his career.

Early Life and College Years
Howard Eisley went to Southwestern High School in Detroit. There, he played basketball with future NBA stars Jalen Rose and Voshon Lenard. After high school, he played for the Boston College Eagles basketball team for four years. He earned a degree in communications.
In his final year at Boston College, Eisley helped his team reach the "Elite Eight" round of the 1994 NCAA tournament. This is a big achievement in college basketball. He also received special honors for his play in that tournament.
Howard Eisley's NBA Career
Playing for the Minnesota Timberwolves (1994-1995)
The Minnesota Timberwolves picked Howard Eisley as the 30th player in the 1994 NBA draft. As a rookie in the 1994–95 season, he played in 34 games. He started four of those games. Eisley played about 14.6 minutes per game. He scored 3.3 points and made 2.3 assists on average. The Timberwolves released him in February 1995.
Time with the San Antonio Spurs (1995)
After leaving the Timberwolves, Eisley signed with the San Antonio Spurs. He first signed two short 10-day contracts. Then, he signed for the rest of the season in March. He played 15 games for the Spurs. He was released in April 1995.
Success with the Utah Jazz (1995-2000)
Eisley started the next season with the Rockford Lightning in a different league. The Utah Jazz then signed him. They needed a point guard to play behind their star, John Stockton. Jazz coach Jerry Sloan praised Eisley, calling him "a focused young man." He noted that Eisley quickly learned how to play with his new teammates. Eisley was also known for being a quiet player.
During the Game 6 of the 1998 NBA Finals, Eisley made a three-point shot. Replays showed the shot was released before the clock ran out. However, the referee mistakenly did not count the points. The Chicago Bulls won that game by one point. They also won the championship series.
Moving to the Dallas Mavericks (2000-2001)
In 2000, Eisley was traded to the Dallas Mavericks. He played in all 82 games for the Mavericks in the 2000–01 season. He averaged 9.0 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game. He also played in nine playoff games for the Mavericks that season. They beat the Utah Jazz in the first round.
Playing for the New York Knicks (2001-2004)
Eisley joined the New York Knicks in 2001. This happened as part of a trade involving three teams. He played for the Knicks for three seasons. In the 2002–03 season, he had his best scoring year. He averaged 9.1 points per game.
Brief Stint with the Phoenix Suns (2004)
In 2004, Eisley was traded to the Phoenix Suns. He played 34 games for the Suns during the 2003–04 season. He was later released by the team in October 2004.
Returning to the Utah Jazz (2004-2005)
Howard Eisley signed a one-year contract to return to the Utah Jazz in November 2004. He had played for the Jazz for five seasons before. In his comeback season, he played 74 games. He averaged 5.6 points and 3.4 assists. He reached his 700th career game in December 2004. He also scored his 5,000th career point in April 2005.
With the Los Angeles Clippers (2005-2006)
Eisley signed with the Los Angeles Clippers in November 2005. He played 13 games for them. The Clippers released him in January 2006.
Finishing with the Denver Nuggets (2006)
After signing two short contracts, the Denver Nuggets kept Eisley for the rest of the 2005–06 season. He played in 19 games for the Nuggets. He averaged 4.8 points and 2.3 assists. He was traded to the Chicago Bulls in July 2006, but the Bulls later released him. This marked the end of his playing career.
Coaching Career
After his playing days, Howard Eisley became a coach. In 2010, he started as a player development assistant for the Los Angeles Clippers. This job helps players improve their skills.
On September 4, 2014, he became an assistant coach for the Washington Wizards. After three years with the Wizards, he became an assistant coach for the New York Knicks. Later, Eisley joined Juwan Howard's coaching staff at the University of Michigan as an assistant coach.
