Howick Island is a small, empty island in Australia. It's part of the Howick group of islands. This group is located within the amazing Great Barrier Reef Marine Park. You can find Howick Island in Far North Queensland. It's the southernmost island in its group.

Island's Name
The group of islands, including Howick Island, got its name in 1815. A naval officer named Lieutenant Charles Jeffreys RN, who was the captain of the ship HMS Kangaroo, named them. He might have named them after Sir Charles Grey, Viscount Howick. Sir Charles Grey was a soldier.
A Famous Book
A writer named Ion Idriess wrote his first novel, Madman's Island, in 1927. This book is partly based on his own real-life adventures. He wrote about his experiences while he was on Howick Island.
