Ithu facts for kids
The Ithu were an Indigenous Australian group who lived along the eastern coast of the Cape York Peninsula in northern Queensland. They were one of the many unique Aboriginal peoples of Australia.
Where Did the Ithu Live?
The Ithu people lived in a special part of Australia. Their traditional lands included Noble Island and the coral reefs and islands nearby. This area also included islands like Howick, which is part of the Howick island group. This beautiful region is located opposite Barrow Point.
Who Were the Ithu People?
Sadly, not much information has survived about the Ithu people. We know very little about their daily lives, customs, or language. A famous researcher named Norman Tindale studied Aboriginal groups. He thought the Ithu might have been a smaller group, sometimes called a horde, connected to the Mutumui people. A "horde" in this context means a smaller, close-knit group within a larger community.
