About Hoyt
A Glimpse into History
Hoyt has a bit of history! A post office was first opened here on August 19, 1890. Back then, this area was known as "Indian Territory." The community was named after a person named Babe Hoyt, who used to operate a ferryboat nearby. The post office eventually closed its doors on April 17, 2004. Even though the post office is gone, Hoyt still has its own special ZIP code, which is 74440.
When Hoyt was first established, it was part of the Moshulatubbee District. This district belonged to the Choctaw Nation, one of the Native American tribes in the area.
The Old Schoolhouse
Hoyt is also home to the historic Hoyt School. This school building is no longer used for classes, but it's still very important. It has been suggested to become an official landmark in Oklahoma. This would recognize its special place in the history of the state.
