The Hubert Glacier is a cool river of ice. It is found on the south side of Mount Olympus. This mountain is part of the Olympic Mountains in Olympic National Park.
Because it faces south, the Hubert Glacier gets more sunlight. This makes it smaller than other glaciers on the north side of Mount Olympus. An example of a larger glacier there is the Blue Glacier.
Discovering Hubert Glacier
The Hubert Glacier is named after Anna Hubert. She was the only woman on the first team to climb Mount Olympus. It's pretty special to have a glacier named after you!
Where the Glacier Sits
Hubert Glacier rests in a bowl-shaped hollow. This hollow is called a cirque. The cirque is at the bottom of a very steep rock face. This rock face is known as a headwall.
One part of the glacier reaches high up the mountain. It stretches south from its main body.
How the Glacier Flows
The highest point of the glacier is around 6,500 feet (2,000 m). From there, it flows north. It joins the main ice in the cirque. This meeting point is about 5,600 ft (1,700 m).
After that, the glacier changes direction. It flows west until it ends. The end of the glacier, called its terminus, is around 5,000 ft (1,500 m).
