Hugh Charles, born in 1986, is an American former professional football player. He played as a running back, which means he was a player who carries the ball. Hugh played in the Canadian Football League (CFL). He first joined the Minnesota Vikings in 2007. Then, in 2008, he signed with the Saskatchewan Roughriders. He also played college football for the Colorado Buffaloes. Later, in 2011, he was traded to the Edmonton Eskimos.

Playing for the Saskatchewan Roughriders
Hugh Charles started his CFL career with the Saskatchewan Roughriders. In his first season, the 2008 CFL season, he played in only two games. Over his first three years, he had limited playing time. He carried the ball 50 times for 315 yards and scored 5 touchdowns.
He began the 2011 CFL season with the Roughriders, playing in seven games. On October 12, 2011, Hugh was traded to the Edmonton Eskimos.
Playing for the Edmonton Eskimos
After joining the Eskimos in 2011, Hugh played in two more games that season. The 2012 CFL season was a very successful year for Hugh Charles. He played in 16 of the 18 regular season games. He carried the ball 170 times for 887 yards and scored 6 rushing touchdowns. He also caught 32 passes for 522 yards and scored 2 receiving touchdowns. On October 12, 2012, he even completed his first pass attempt for 14 yards!
In the 2013 CFL season, Hugh played in 15 games. He missed a few games because of a hamstring injury. He had fewer rushing attempts than in 2012, with 112 carries. He gained 605 yards and scored 3 rushing touchdowns. After this season, the Eskimos signed Hugh again until the 2015 CFL season. However, on June 21, 2014, he was released by the Eskimos just after the preseason ended.
Returning to the Saskatchewan Roughriders
After leaving Edmonton, Hugh Charles played one more game with the Saskatchewan Roughriders. In that game, he rushed for 86 yards on 13 carries.
Joining the Calgary Stampeders
On July 28, 2014, Hugh Charles signed with the Calgary Stampeders. He won the Grey Cup championship with them in 2014.
