Hugo Otoniel Rodríguez Chinchilla (born October 5, 1975 – died April 5, 2023) was a politician from Guatemala. He served as a deputy, which is like a representative, in the Congress of Guatemala. He worked for the Central District from January 2020 until he passed away in April 2023. Rodríguez was a member of the political party called Commitment, Renewal and Order (CREO).

Hugo Otoniel Rodríguez Chinchilla was born on October 5, 1975. He grew up in Guatemala.
His Time in Politics
Hugo Rodríguez Chinchilla started his political journey as a councilor in the town of Chinautla, which is in the Guatemala Department. He was elected in 2015 and served from 2016 to 2020. A councilor helps make decisions for a local town or city.
Later, in the 2019 elections, he ran to become a deputy for the Congress of Guatemala. He was part of the Commitment, Renewal and Order (CREO) party. He won the election and became a deputy on January 14, 2020.
Working in Congress
As a deputy, Rodríguez was involved in many important groups called parliamentary commissions. These groups focus on different topics like transportation, national defense, and labor. At the time of his death, he was the leader of the Communications, Transportation and Public Works Commission.
He also helped create new laws. One important law he supported aimed to help military veterans who served during the Guatemalan Civil War. In early 2023, it was announced that Rodríguez planned to run for re-election as a deputy in the upcoming elections.
His Passing
Hugo Rodríguez Chinchilla passed away on April 5, 2023, in Guatemala City. He had been sick with pneumonia for several days and was admitted to a hospital. The illness caused damage to his lung and led to two heart attacks.
Many people, including other deputies and the president of Congress, Shirley Rivera, shared their sadness about his death. Rodríguez was the fourth deputy to die while in office during that term of Congress.
