About the Show
Hulk Hogan's Rock 'n' Wrestling was made by DIC Animation City. It showed animated adventures of popular WWF wrestling stars from that time. The main character was Hulk Hogan. He led a group of "face" wrestlers. In wrestling, a "face" is a good guy or hero.
They fought against a group of "heel" wrestlers. A "heel" is a bad guy or villain. This group was led by "Rowdy" Roddy Piper. The show was like many 1980s cartoons. It focused on good characters winning against bad guys in funny situations.
Real Wrestlers, Cartoon Voices
The show didn't focus much on actual wrestling matches. Instead, wrestling was a way to show who the good guys and bad guys were. The real wrestlers sometimes appeared in live-action parts of the show. However, they were too busy traveling for wrestling events. So, professional voice actors did the voices for their cartoon characters.
One live-action part that appeared often was a music video. It was a cover song called "Land of a Thousand Dances". Several WWF wrestlers sang it for The Wrestling Album.
Keeping Up with Wrestling
Making cartoons takes a long time. Because of this, the show sometimes didn't match what was happening in the real WWF. For example, some wrestlers might become a "heel" (bad guy) in real wrestling. But they would still be a "face" (good guy) on the cartoon.
This happened with "Rowdy" Roddy Piper. He was a bad guy when the show started. But he became a good guy in real wrestling in late 1986. Yet, he stayed a bad guy in the cartoon. André the Giant was a good guy in 1985. He turned bad in early 1987. But he remained a good guy throughout the cartoon series.
Also, characters like Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka and Wendi Richter stayed on the show. This was true even though they had left the WWF in late 1985.
Where to Watch It Now
Today, WWE owns the rights to the show. In April 2015, WWE added the show to the WWE Network. It was available after an episode of WWE Raw. Later, the show was removed from the WWE Network. It has not returned since.
