History of Humbird

Humbird was named after its founder, Jacob Humbird. He was born in Pennsylvania in 1811. Jacob and his brother were very involved in building railroads.

Building Railroads

Jacob Humbird helped build a major railroad in Brazil. It was called the Dom Pedro Secundo Railroad. This railway connected the city of Rio de Janeiro to areas further inland.

Later, in 1867, Jacob Humbird worked with D. A. Baldwin. They built the main line of the West Wisconsin Railroad. This line stretched from Elroy to Hudson.

Humbird's Railroad Connection

The railroad tracks reached Humbird in late 1869. The train station, or depot, in Humbird officially opened on January 1, 1870. This made Humbird an important stop along the railway.

There is a pond in Humbird that is about 13 acres in size. At its deepest point, the pond is about 6 feet deep. Even though its official name is Emerson Lake, most people call it Humbird Pond.

Humbird is a good place for outdoor adventures. There are several ATV trails in the area. These trails are perfect for riding ATVs and exploring the outdoors.
