Hunter Craig Kemper was born on May 4, 1976. He is a famous triathlete from the United States. A triathlete is an athlete who competes in a triathlon. This race combines swimming, cycling, and running. Hunter Kemper is well-known for representing the U.S. in four Olympic events. He also won medals at the Pan American Games.
Hunter Kemper's College Life
Hunter Kemper went to Wake Forest University in North Carolina. He studied Business Administration there. While at college, he was part of the Men's Cross Country and Track & Field teams for four years. He finished his degree in 1998.
Hunter Kemper's Triathlon Career
Hunter Kemper competed in the very first Olympic triathlon. This was at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia. He finished in seventeenth place.
Four years later, Hunter competed again. This time it was at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece. He improved his ranking, finishing in ninth place. The course in Athens was more challenging.
At the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China, he did even better. He finished in seventh place.
In 2012, Hunter Kemper competed in the ITU San Diego Triathlon. He placed fifth in this race. This result helped him qualify for the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. At those games, he finished fourteenth. This was the best result for the U.S. triathlon team.
Hunter Kemper is one of only two American male triathletes ever to be ranked world number one. This ranking comes from the International Triathlon Union (ITU). Another American, Mark Fretta, also held this top spot for a few months in 2006. In July 2006, Hunter won the Life Time Fitness Triathlon in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He won a large prize, which was one of the biggest in professional triathlon at that time.
