A Glimpse into Huron's Past
Huron was officially planned and mapped out in 1859. This process, called "platting," is how new communities are organized with streets and lots. The community was named after Huron, Ohio, a city located in another state.
A Tragic Event During the Civil War
On September 16, 1861, during the American Civil War, a sad accident happened near Huron. A train carrying about 600 Union soldiers from Illinois crashed into a creek. Many soldiers were hurt or lost their lives in this unfortunate event.
