Hurricane Lane was a very strong Pacific hurricane that hit Mexico in 2006. It was the most powerful hurricane to make landfall in Mexico since Hurricane Kenna in 2002. Lane was the 13th named storm and the 9th hurricane of the 2006 Pacific hurricane season.

The hurricane started from a tropical wave on September 13, 2006, south of Mexico. It moved along the coast, getting stronger very quickly. Lane then turned towards the northeast. It reached its strongest point with winds of 125 mph (205 km/h). After that, it made landfall in the Mexican state of Sinaloa. Hurricane Lane quickly lost strength and disappeared by September 17.

Impact and Damage

Hurricane Lane caused damage and problems in the areas it passed through. Four people sadly lost their lives because of the storm.

The worst damage happened in Sinaloa, where the hurricane hit land directly. Many farms and crops were badly damaged, which was a big problem for local farmers.

In Acapulco, a city on the coast, there was a lot of flooding. This flooding caused dangerous mudslides in some places. The total damage in Mexico from Hurricane Lane was about $203 million (in 2006 USD).
