Hy-Vee Hall is a large convention center located in Des Moines, Iowa, in the United States. It is a special building where many big events take place. Hy-Vee Hall is part of a larger area known as the Iowa Events Center.
History of Hy-Vee Hall
Hy-Vee Hall first opened its doors for an event even before it was fully finished. This first event was called the Autumn Festival. It happened from October 21 to October 23, 2004.
The building was officially opened on December 15, 2004. A special part inside, called the Iowa Hall of Pride, opened a bit later on February 23, 2005.
A grocery store chain named Hy-Vee, which is from the local area, helped pay for the building. They made a deal in 2001 to have the building named after them for 20 years.
What You Can Do at Hy-Vee Hall
Hy-Vee Hall has a huge amount of space for different events. It offers 100,000 square feet (about 9,000 square meters) for things like trade shows and big meetings.
When connected to the Community Choice Credit Union Convention Center, the total space becomes even larger. Together, they offer 150,000 square feet of continuous space.
The building also has eight smaller rooms for meetings. These rooms add up to 15,000 square feet (about 1,400 square meters) of meeting space.
At the south end of Hy-Vee Hall, you can find the Iowa Hall of Pride. This area celebrates the amazing achievements of high school athletes and performers from Iowa.
Hy-Vee Hall is also known as "Iowa's largest ballroom." It can hold up to 17,000 people for big gatherings.
Famous Events at Hy-Vee Hall
Many important events have taken place at Hy-Vee Hall. One notable event happened in 2008.
Then-Senator Barack Obama gave a victory speech there. This was after he won the Iowa caucuses. The caucuses are early political meetings where people choose who they want to be president.
